LOWONGAN SENIOR PROGRAM MANAGER, PALM OIL

IDH-THE SUSTAINABLE TRADE INITIATIVE
IDH, The Sustainable Trade Initiative helps to accelerate and upscale sustainable practices within mainstream international commodity markets, driving sustainability from niche to norm. We build ambitious public-private coalitions of companies, civil society organizations and governments in high-impact programs in order to benefit people, the planet and profit. Partnering with over 350 companies, 60 NGOs and numerous governmental organizations, IDH is a dynamic organization of about 50 staff members based in Utrecht, The Netherlands, with hubs in Vietnam, Indonesia, India and other countries. IDH now runs over 100 projects through 18 commodity programs in 50 countries, together with internationally operating companies and implementing partners. Among the commodities IDH focuses on are cocoa, coffee, tea, soy, cotton, timber, palm oil, natural stone, aquaculture and electronics. Partnering companies have committed to invest in their supply chains to make production and trade more sustainable. IDH receives its funding from the Dutch, Swiss and Danish governments.
The Palm Oil program
The IDH Palm Oil Program supports the production of traceable, sustainable palm oil at scale through partnerships with local and international stakeholders in Indonesia, Malaysia, and West Africa. IDH focuses on scalable interventions in ‘supply sheds’: geographic areas where mills and refineries draw their supply. The interventions should create sufficient volume to allow mills and refineries in supply sheds to process 100% traceable, sustainable palm oil, improving cost efficiency and the potential for mainstreaming. The Program builds coalitions to deliver innovations for key challenges such as traceability, smallholder productivity, access to finance and sustainability monitoring. This is expected to boost supply of traceable, sustainable palm oil and raise productivity, which has the potential to improve the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of smallholders and reduce pressure to expand palm oil plantations into tropical forests and peatlands.
The overall objective palm oil program is to avoid deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions associated with palm oil expansion by. This is to be achieved through a focus on two specific workstreams:

Convening the industry to define a common definition of traceability and a common roadmap for the steps needed to achieve it.Supporting investment in 3rd party suppliers to become more sustainable. This includes supporting mills to become more sustainable and smallholder farmers to become organized, increase their productivity, use better production practices, access investment finance and improve their livelihoods. When supported by robust monitoring, this should reduce pressure to expand into forests.
In 2014, the program began the move from the scoping to implementation stage. By convening the traceability working group (TWG), IDH has been instrumental in facilitating progress on the first workstream. Simultaneously, IDH has entered into partnerships that are expected to support the integration of more than 17,000 farmers into sustainable supply chains by supporting them to improve productivity, implement best agricultural practices, access investment finance and become verified or certified.
To support the further development and upscaling of the palm oil program IDH is now seeking to recruit a Senior Program Manager, Palm Oil.
