Position Summary: The Associate Manager for Southeast Asia will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Rainforest Alliance strategic plan in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, and Thailand (the Region). S/he will provide administrative project management and monitoring of certification and verification jobs and will be responsible for developing new clients within the region.  S/he will provide the day-to-day operational management of the office, including portfolio management, financial and other management, and directly supervises the local staff.  S/he will also perform Head of Office (HOO) responsibilities for the Asia Pacific Region.  

Associate Manager, Southeast Asia – RA-Cert Division
Denpasar (Bali)
Responsibilities:
 Develop and manage Rainforest Alliance’s Asia Pacific marketing of its certification business. Marketing & Sales  
  • Develop the strategic RA mission and RA-Cert business plans for the region in line with the RA strategic plan in coordination with the Asia Oceania Manager;
  • Directly market RA-Cert services to commercial, community-based, non-profit and Indigenous organizations;  
  • Meet fiscal year sales/income, business and mission targets for RA services in the region; 
Customer Service  
  • Ensure that customer service is delivered to current and interested clients in the Asia Pacific region, to include but not limited to, information about certification, , and guidance on certification process, trademark use, marketing, etc.; and
  • Maintain current clients through regular communication with key clients, quality and timely service.
Region Representatives
  • Provide oversight for current and future country or regional representatives in the region.
  • Serve as a liaison between representatives and the Asia Pacific office staff.
Represent Rainforest Alliance
  • Establish and maintain  relationships with key stakeholders 
  • Provide direct first response to complaints and disputes relating to RA services and clients.
  • Serve as the  Rainforest Alliance representative  with government, industry, and NGOs in the region;
  • Collaborate with the Senior Management Team to identify, recommend and assist to develop new alliances, including MOU representatives and in-country government, industry, and NGOs in all target countries.  
  • Attend appropriate functions and conferences as the RA representative in the region
Project Management, Certification Management & Quality Control of Rainforest Alliance certification and verification services:
Project Management  
  • Collaborate with the Asia Pacific staff (specific service associates) in developing service delivery budgets • Be familiar with all Rainforest Alliance certification and verification, standards,  policies and procedures relating to the services and provide input from the region in policy development and technical improvements to the certification system;
  • Ensure that representatives and consultants follow and implement the technical certification and verification protocols in the region;
  • Work with RA-Cert’s Quality Assurance department to identify technical and administrative quality issues and to improve quality of auditors and consultants;
  • Provide direct first response to potential trademark misuse in the region is maintained in coordination with RA-Cert Quality Assurance department and Rainforest Alliance Trademark Agents.
  • Maintain the pool of qualified representatives, consultants and auditors; 
Manage Certification Jobs  
  • Periodically serve as lead auditor or auditor for pre-assessments, assessments, and audits for certification and verification services.
  • Work with the Asia Pacific office in maintaining audit quality and integrity
  • Write, review and approve certification assessment and audit reports for certification and verification services.
Finance, Operations Management and Certification Systems  
Provide support with the following: 
  • Management of support staff; 
  • Financial management of the region; 
  • General office administration
Head of Office Responsibilities:
Governance  
  • Working closely with Finance & Administration, Legal, Operations & Global Planning, and Program ensure branch/subsidiary meets all compliance requirements;
  • Where needed, administer and support local Board of Directors;
  • Serve as legal representative and holder of powers of attorney, as required.
Outreach
  • Represent RA as needed with local donors, government representatives, visiting dignitaries, and other outside parties;
  • Serve as senior-level liaison to Development.
Communications
  • Ensure effective communications among programs and between local staff and the broader organization;  
  • Serve as senior-level liaison to Communications; and
  • Create a culture of cross-divisional team building and unity.
Program Management  
  • Serve as senior-level in-country program person;
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for cross-program activities. Administration  
  • Serve as senior-level liaison to Finance & Administration, Legal, and Global Operations & Planning;
  • Hold signing authority on bank accounts and designate alternative signatories, as needed;
  • Working closely with Finance-NY and local administrative team develop, approve and manage countryoffice budget;
  • Convene regular meetings with other senior level program representatives and administrative staff; and
  • Have dotted line supervisory responsibility, as needed, for local administrative staff.  

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/related Natural Resource field required; Master’s degree or equivalent academic degree strongly preferred;
  • Minimum of 5 years field experience in agriculture/related field, and minimum of 2 years experience in agriculture auditing or other evaluation;
  • Experience in quality assurance and demonstrated experience in developing auditing systems including tools, procedures and manuals;
  • Solid experience in certification and auditing required;
  • Knowledge of training program design, implementation and evaluation;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook with a working knowledge of PowerPoint;
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills;
  • Bilingual Spanish/French with written and verbal proficiency in both languages desired;
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner; 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact culturally, linguistically, and diplomatically with diverse internal and external individuals; 
  • Initiative, self-motivated, resourceful, and dependable with a strong attention to detail; and
  • Ability and willingness to travel a minimum of 20% per year, nationally and internationally.
